New Year, Same Me (and I’m not mad about it)

This year, I’m not going to lose 10 lbs. I’m not going to completely give up carbs, or sugar, or alcohol. I’m not going to be a perfect mom, or wife, or friend. Most importantly, I’m NOT going to hold myself to impossible standards.

Trying to be perfect gets old, doesn’t it? There’s a reason why resolutions don’t last (the majority of them, anyway). I love the feeling of the new year when everyone’s energy is sky-high and their goals are as big as Texas… but I hate what comes next. This period of awesomeness is typically followed by feelings of inadequacy, failure, and regret. It’s easy to fail when your goal is ridiculously unrealistic.

It’s time to get rid of the all-or-nothing mindset. It’s time to set realistic goals and focus on positive vibes, kindness, and self-love. It’s time to be happy with the YOU that you are and to make small improvements along the way. A great place to start is setting monthly goals and intentions rather than annual resolutions. Easier to track, easier to be accountable for, and you can revisit and revise them each month.

For 2018, I’m starting with decluttering. I’ll never be a minimalist— it’s just not me. I will, however, work towards ridding our house and our life of unnecessary things and burdens. I’ve got a plan of attack ready to declutter and I’m going to go slow (anyone else just swimming in “stuff”?!). I’m going to be thoughtful and intentional each month with what I want to accomplish and how I want to better myself. I’m going to totally KILL IT in 2018.

I’m hoping you’ll join me each month in setting personal and professional goals and positive intentions for yourself. After all, teamwork makes the dream work and there’s nothing better than an accountability partner. Who’s with me?

P.S. If you’re interested in joining me this month and decluttering, consider joining the #declutterlikeamother challenge from blogger Allie Casazza! (and if you haven’t checked out her blog, you should– she’s a total freakin’ inspiration). I signed up today and I’m pretty stoked. 30 days to dive deep into a less cluttered, more intentional motherhood. Join HERE!
